About Terraform
Terraform turns sunlight into materials, materials into products and products into places people live. We design and build the machines that run each industrial process on solar power. We develop the solar parks that feed them, then make and sell what comes out.
Mission
Design the industrial stack for a solar-powered future
Most of the plant that makes cement, steel, glass, water and fuel was designed around coal, gas and grid power, and runs day and night to pay off its capital. Solar electricity is heading below 1 cent a kilowatt hour wherever the sun shines, in daylight hours.
So we redesign every process for daylight. A Cell runs on direct current from the array, starts at sunrise and stops at sunset, and is built in a factory, so each one costs less than the one before.
Vision
Vastly increase production and reduce the cost of everything
- Falling cost per watt
- A watt of solar costs less to make and install every year, and the cost of our energy falls with it.
- Daylight operation
- Our processes start at sunrise and stop at sunset. Plant sized for daylight is simpler than plant built to run all night.
- Low capital, low running cost
- Each Cell makes its own energy and runs itself, unattended, from sunrise to sunset.
- A new investment class
- Industrial plant has belonged to large companies. Smaller investors can now own part of the solar-industrial stack.
Why
Solar technology has become so cheap, we need to think how we can use it to power civilisation
Solar has made electricity cheap anywhere the sun shines, but cheap electricity builds nothing until it becomes cement, steel, glass, water and fuel. Most countries have the rock and the sun and still import the materials they build with.
Terraform builds the machines that do that conversion, so a community can make the materials for its own infrastructure, on Earth and later in space.
How the parts fit
From Photon to Prosperity
- CellsThe machines. Each Cell runs one industrial process on solar power. Cells run in a row on a megawatt of solar.
- MaterialsWhat the Cells make: steel, glass, mineral wool, fibres, cement, water and industrial gases, at or below conventional prices.
- Building BlocksHomes and buildings made in our factory from those materials, up in 1 day on site.
- AirA home HVAC and hot water system with no running cost, fitted to the buildings we make.
- DeckAluminium decks, floors and landings that arrive cut and drilled, for you to build in an afternoon, from A$890.
- WorldsDevelopments we build and run with all of it: Om in Mansfield, rejuvenation retreats built on sound and mineral water, and Ad Astra in Cremorne, the alternative to university.
The Cells supply the Building Blocks line, Building Blocks build the Worlds, and each World runs on the whole system.
The Industrial Stack, Rebuilt for Sunlight
We design the Cells, build the solar parks, make the materials and products, and open ownership of the plant to smaller investors.
Team
James Sackl
Founder
James founded Terraform to rebuild industry around solar power. He leads the design of the Cells, the Building Blocks system and the Worlds we develop.
We are hiring mechanical, structural and product engineers in Cremorne.
